Pat Mattix, a member of Warpole Chapter #366, OES, has been selected as Grand Marshal of the Grand Chapter of Ohio. The Grand Marshal is a key officer in the Eastern Star Organization, taking care of various behind-the-scenes duties. After 85 years without a grand officer in the chapter, the group has now had 2 grand officers starting in 1998 when Diana McDonald was selected to serve as Grand Organist for 1998-99. A reception is being planned for Pat at the Moose
Hall on June 10, 2005. Congratulations Pat.

James McDonald was elected and installed as Grand Scribe of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio in October. If the line progresses as usual, Jim should be elected and installed as the state presiding officer in October of 2006. Jim also received a call in the wee hours of the morning in September, informing him that he was selected to receive his 33rd Degree in Grand Rapids next year. Warpole has had 6 other 33rd Degree Masons in its history and Jim should be honored by his nomination.

Did you get your calendar from the Grand Lodge yet? Did you recognize anyone in the photos? Several photos of area people were included in the Masonic Charitable calendar. The cover collage has Warpole Lodge's officers in the lower right corner and again on November's page. February depicts veteran members: Ellis "Bud" Helge, Gerald Pfeifer and John Garner. Anna Weatherholtz, a Grand Master's Youth In Excellence Award winner from
Upper Sandusky's Rainbow Girls, is pictured with Craig Riedel in the month of May. And another photo supplied by us is used in July, a photo of Shriners dipping ice cream at the Bucyrus' ice cream social. It all transpired when Chad Simpson, director of development for the Grand Lodge, sent me an e-mail requesting Masonic photos. Tom Zeigler and I started sending photos of all types of events, neither of us knew why he requested them. What a nice surprise. The calendar was to be sent to the 125,000+ Masons in the state and I suggest we all make a donation to the Charitable Foundation for the gift.

Notice any changes at the Masonic Center? If not, you should stop in and take a look. A lot of projects have transpired the last few years. The cleaning and repointing of the bricks on our 95-year-old facility was the major renovation and it was completed last year. Other projects involved "sweat equity"
and saved us a lot of money since the labor was provided free from many members of our Masonic family. Thanks to hours of hard work and a high degree of skill, Dr. George Oklok refinished the oak doors
on the front of the building. Anyone watching him as he worked was amazed at the detail he went to restoring the 2" thick doors. After hand sanding them, he saved the sawdust and mixed it with glue to form a pasty substance to fill cracks and holes. He used all sorts of dentist tools
to remove stubborn varnish and rotting wood from the wooden border accenting the doors. After using syringes to insert the pasty substance to fill smaller cracks and holes, he stained the doors and then put several coats of marine varnish on them (thanks Doc.)
Meanwhile Larry Miller worked on the brass fixtures and coated them to help prevent them from tarnishing. The doors, installed a couple of months ago, are beautiful. Never let it be said that the Masonic trustees do little, not this year. Joel Kin, Clarence Racheter and Larry Miller met every week during the summer planning various project goals set by the lodge. These men worked diligently to complete various tasks and should be commended for their efforts. We noticed water was entering our basement from the old coal chute in the alley. Joel Kin filled it with stone and then covered the top with cement. He then went around the building caulking it where the foundation and bricks meet. Safety was a concern when we noticed that some tile floor blocks were loose in our entry way. New, larger tile was laid over new sub flooring.
Clarence
Racheter was in charge of supervising this project.
A restroom
is being upgraded and the office now has new handmade shelves, a fresh coat of pain, suspended ceiling and some carpeting. The DeMolay Boys are completing painting the pie room. The screens are being replaced in the window frames. The ladies of the Eastern Star and Rainbow Girls are cleaning the entire facility and the drapes are being cleaned at Kimmel's. George Oklok, Bob Case, Bernard and Joel Kin are building and finishing vertical display cases to better use our space. The trustees will be disposing of 5 display cases for a donation, anyone interested in one or more of them should contact us. A lot of progress in a few years and special thanks should go to Joel
& Janice Kin and their daughters for planning and working on all phases of the renovation. Joel could be found at the center faithfully working on all projects at all times of the day and night. Their cars sat outside for several months because their garage was used for the door and cabinet renovation. Larry
Miller was also a mainstay in all aspects of the several projects. Others helping with one or more of the projects in addition to the ones mentioned above are: Sheryl Grafmiller, Sue Brown, Suzanna Eyestone, Robert Case, Darla & Richard Hudson, Bud Helge and Deb & Ron Pool. Thanks to all who helped and I apologize if I omitted anyone helping with the projects.

At our installation on Dec. 7 we will be reading a proposal to change our by-laws increasing our affiliation fees from $30 to $40. It seems the Grand Lodge Code requires the fee to equal our dues of $40, so a change is necessary. We will be voting on the proposal at the following stated meeting on Dec. 21.
