January 2009 Newsletter

Due toYOUR fine support of the first eighteen Pancake and Sausage Breakfast fund raisers, the Masonic Center Improvement Committee is planning another breakfast to be held on Saturday, March 21, 2009.
This year in celebration of our 160 years in existence and our building approaching its 100th birthday, an will be held during the same hours of the breakfast.
Our Grand Master of Masons in Ohio has directed that all Lodges in Ohio invite non-members to reach out to their communities on this date and invite them to see their facilities. Those taking a brief tour of our upstairs will receive a special commemorative memento. Few non-members have seen our beautiful, colorful lodge room with its oak woodwork, new carpet, tin ceiling and comfortable chairs. The open house will also give some of our members a chance to see the newly redecorated lodge room.
Our pancake and sausage breakfast is a yearly special project unique to other fraternal organizations. Many cities hold monthly breakfasts, but do not offer Bob Evans sausage, nor do they make as much profit as we do in one. Our success lies in the excellent organization of the event and the generous contributions we receive. We usually make as much or more profit on the contributions we receive than the sale of tickets. We also serve about 400 customers in 4 1/ 2 hours, filling and emptying our dining room more than seven times.
Profits of the last eighteen years' breakfasts plus your GENEROUS DONATIONS allowed us over the years to buy 60 metal folding chairs; to buy 16 banquet tables for the dining room; to stretch the loose carpeting in the preparation & lodge rooms; to purchase paint and supplies, allowing Bud Helge's committee to renovate the entry ways, hallways and dining room; to install additional electrical outlets in the dining room; to purchase carpet for the downstairs lounge twice; to clean the carpet on the steps and upstairs twice; to replace the kitchen flooring with linoleum, donated by Herman and Irene Schoenberger; to repair the fire escape, by Mike Ralph; to replace the fire escape door located on the north end of the second floor; to replace and seal the bricks at the north end of the building at a cost of $2,400; to help pay for the replacement of water and gas lines which were damaged; to scrape, repaint and repair the roof by Mike Ralph, Joel Kin and Joe Klingel; to paint the lodge room at a cost of $3,500; to purchase a water fountain; to upgrade our computer twice; to pay for a $650 repair on our boiler; to upgrade our lighting in our office and on our stage in the lodge room; to replace both alley doors at a cost of $2,000; to remodel and repair the bathrooms; to provide more than $4,000 to replace the boiler; to provide funds to allow the DeMolay Chapter to paint and upgrade our basement; to install the large exhaust fan in the attic; to replace the flooring in our entryway and bathrooms; to provide $7,000 for the installation of our new carpeting; to replace the flooring in the kitchen; and to upgrade the lighting and wiring on the main floor.
The committee has decided that several new projects need to be considered.
The breakfast will be held Saturday, March 21, 2009, from 6:30 to 11 a.m. in the Masonic Center, 118 W. Johnson St., Upper Sandusky, Ohio. The menu will include: Pancakes (all you can eat); Bob Evans sausage; coffee; milk; and juice (orange and tomato). All this for a donation of only $5.00. Everyone must have a ticket; and tickets may be purchased at the door.
To help the food committee plan and prepare enough food, we encourage buying your tickets in advance. Tickets can be purchased from officers of the Lodge, Chapter, Council, Eastern Star, DeMolay or Rainbow organizations. You may also purchase tickets or make a donation by filling out the convenient coupon on the flier enclosed.
The breakfast and open house is open to all members, their families and guests. Due to the restrictions placed on our building, WE NEED YOUR HELP in promoting this event to BOTH members as well as NONMEMBERS. We hope to also use this event as a tool to invite prospective candidates to our organizations. So why not consider bringing someone or buying extra tickets and giving them to someone who you think would like to join one or more of our organizations?
We look forward to serving you breakfast on Saturday, March 21, 2009.
