Another successful (#15) Pancake and Sausage breakfast is history. Thanks to all those who worked, donated money (totaling nearly $700), sold or bought tickets. We anticipate we will show a profit of $1,850. That brings the total raised at our 15 once-a-year breakfasts to nearly $33,100. Approximately $5,800 is in the fund now for improvements.
Although we served 380 breakfasts in one morning, we pre-sold 414 tickets and had 108 walk-ins.

The extra tickets purchased and not used were like an additional $568 donation. In addition leftover supplies were sold or returned adding to our profit margin.

Pillsbury , General Mills, of Martel Ohio, donated 150 lbs. of pancake mix, so we are very grateful to them for their generosity.

Another One-Day Grand Master's Class was held on April 9, 2005, at 11 different locations in Ohio. The cities of the 10 Scottish Rite Valleys in Ohio (Akron, Cambridge, Canton, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Steubenville, Toledo and Youngstown) hosted the event along with a new location: Rio Grande in southeastern Ohio. Approximately 2,700 new Master Masons were made on that day with 4 new Warpole members.

Around this time of year I try to include information about the (smile Bruce and thank the family) Schoenberger Trust. The program, established more than 17 years ago through the Schoenberger family, set up funds at nearly $36,000 through the Ohio Masonic Home. Part of the interest and dividends generated through these monies would be awarded to graduating students from the area. Although first consideration would be given to students with a Rainbow or DeMolay background, the ones receiving grants do not have to have a Masonic connection. After a certain number of years (next year) the entire fund will be turned over to the Ohio Masonic Home. The fund is managed by a firm in Toledo.
In the 18 years that awards have been given, (108) students have qualified for approximately $40,200 in grants from this Masonic-related charity.
Those named for grants and the total earmarked by year are:

In addition to this fine scholarship program, Warpole Lodge has a special fund which is set aside to award a scholarship each year to a graduating senior(s). Again it is not necessary that this winner has a Masonic affiliation and the amount of the award may vary each year due to fluctuations in the interest rate. Although the last few years $200 has been given to each qualifying student and more than 1 student per year.
Those named for this scholarship are: 1986 - Nancy Smith; 1987 - Teressa Strasser; 1988 - Michelle Meeker; 1989 - Mathew Arnold; 1990 - Amy Baker; 1991 - Lisa Wagner; 1992 - Heather Haff; 1993 - Darcy Kraus; 1994 - Michael Prenger; 1995 - Michael Eddington; 1996 - Kara Lee; 1996 - Emily Harris; 1997 - Tonya Karg; 1998 - Heather F. On Monday, July 4, Warpole Lodge will again be holding a Master Mason raising at 5:30 a.m. see other areas of this newsletter for more information. The event has become an annual tradition since 1923. The Master Mason Degree was not always the degree performed but has been the tradition since 1939.
Since that time a meeting was held every year in observance of Independence Day except in 1945. The only other year that the lodge was "dark" was in 1938. When we look at the candidates who received the degrees on the "4th" it reads like a Who's Who of Masonry in Upper Sandusky.
If you are a member, please attend our holiday meeting. KEEP THE TRADITION ALIVE!!!

We have ordered 100 new chairs with arms for our main lodge floor from Church Chair Industries Inc. Our old red theater seats were splitting and in desperate need of repair. The red chairs were in use the first time I saw the lodge room in the 1950s, more than 50 years ago. Estimates were obtained to recover the seats, but we found new chairs would cost nearly $20 less each than refurbishing the old. The new chairs are oversized and will not be bolted to the floor. This will allow us to rearrange the furniture and rotate the chairs, eliminating excessive wear to certain seats.
Our "new" royal blue carpet will be 31 years old this summer and looks very good on the surface, but the padding and backing is breaking down and a powdery substance can be found on your shoes after walking on it for a while. Because we will have chairs not bolted to the floor, replacing the carpet in the future will be much simpler.
We may even start a donation fund for people to purchase a square yard of carpet.

Warpole Chapter 366 OES, has voted to work at Cedar Point this fall and earn money to start a new carpet fund. District 10 has been working at the amusement park for several years and has found that it is a good way to raise money.
The work will be in the air-conditioned hotel and will involve emptying trash, making beds and sweeping rooms and hallways. (Not what I heard, tz)
The park will hire 25 persons for the job lasting on one day from 8 a.m. till 4 p.m. with a lunch break. The group will receive approximately $1,200 for its effort. Free parking and admission to the park is included and after finishing their work the group may stay and enjoy the rides and other attractions at Cedar Point till closing time.
The date will be Saturday, Oct. 9 or 16, contact an OES officer or me to volunteer to work.

In a previous newsletter I mentioned that we have purchased a projector capable of showing DVDs, videos, TV shows and almost any other type of video elements on to our new 8 foot screen. The main reason for this purchase was to project a larger, clearer image for our lectures from the new and very much improved lecture obtained from the Grand Lodge.
The presentation is not a series of slides but a more visual and detailed program. A DVD player has been donated to our facility. Some of our lecture slides were purchased and/or made from film strips in 1969. In 1981 some additional ones were purchased so an upgrade should help our program greatly.
My daughter Kim Mason is scanning our present set of slides and we will be making a Power Point presentation of them to be used with our computer and media projector (the Royal Arch Journey presentation is done.)
Why? Have you tried to purchase a slide projector lately? I am told that they will be in about the same status as the 8-track tape players soon.

In February 110 members and their guests attended a special presentation of "National Treasure," at the Star Theatre. Warpole Lodge paid for the special showing of the movie which is filled with Masonic history and facts. It was a very unusual event and I hear several other lodges have held similar events based on our program.

Tired of high gas prices? Do you do less traveling to area towns? With our new multi-media projector and 8-foot screen, we now have the capability of showing movies at our facility. Who knows, we might even be able to provide some popcorn and soda (the last 2 items usually cost more than admission in area theaters.) All we need is a few people to let us know that they are interested in the project and which movies they would like to see. It could be a new release or a classic. We are open for suggestions and ideas.

The Upper Sandusky Masonic Center Endowment Committee requested that I remind you about their program and I encourage you to continue supporting this excellent plan. $6,000 generated from interest income from this fund paid for the painting of the windows on the second and third floors, copier repair and one of the boilers. Without this fund and our breakfast, nearly $36,000 would have had to be generated for improvements to the center from our other source of income, your dues payments.
The Endowment Committee consists of the three Lodge trustees, three Chapter R.A.M. trustees and an elected representative from the Council and Eastern Star groups. The lodge secretary also serves as secretary for the group, but he does not have a vote on the board. More on the Endowment Fund in future newsletters.
